In support of National Tree Week 2019, 500 native tree and shrub species were planted in Nixey’s Field, between the A34 viaduct, Home Close and Rosamund Road. The land is owned by CALA Homes, purchased as part of the Wolvercote Mill Site for a major housing development. CALA Homes do not have plans to build on the land, instead are keeping it as a wildlife corridor and home for species displaced by the building project. We are grateful for their enthusiasm and financial support, allowing us to plant hazel, hawthorn, black and white poplar, willow and aspen across the field and next to the A34 embankment. Tree Group members are invited to help weed around and maintain these young trees. It is fitting this project ticked off one of John Thompson’s last suggested planting projects.
