Planted in the orchard in 1994 this dessert apple was raised at East Malling Research Station in Kent in 1929 by H. M. Tydeman and is a cross between a Worcester Pearmain and a McIntosh. It was introduced in 1945 but not named until 1963.
It is a medium-sized apple, round conical in shape, with a deep crimson blush on a pale, yellow-green background and light lenticel dots. The flesh is white and juicy with a light strawberry flavour. As its name suggests it ripens in late August to early September.
