One of the first trees to be planted in this orchard in 1994 the Sunset apple was raised from Cox’s Orange Pippin seedling by G C Addy in Igtham, Kent around 1918. It was named and introduced in 1933. This dessert apple has firm flesh with a very similar sweet, sharp and rich flavour to the Cox. The skin has an orange, red flush with many stripes. Though the fruit is a bit smaller they are considered to be easier to grow in cooler climate areas.
