Planted in 2006 this was another variety bred by Fred Wastie in Eynsham in 1924 from a cross between Chatley’s Kernel and Worcester Pearmain. The origin of the name though suggested a political leaning to the left was more likely an appreciation of wartime allies. The fruit which ripens in September is medium sized with pale yellow skin flushed or striped with red. The flesh is crisp, sweet and subacid. The apples will keep for a month or two in the right conditions
