Planted in the orchard in 1997 the ancestry of this apple is unknown but probably around the 18th century. Certainly, by the 19th century, it was very popular as a dessert apple around Gloucestershire, Somerset and Devon. It later fell out of favour for eating but became more important for the cider making industry which produced a sweet cider ready for drinking by December. The apples are an attractive green/yellow colour, slightly conical and mature early in the season around late August but do not keep beyond November.
