Donated by the Wolvercote Baptist Church to the orchard in 1997 this culinary apple was raised in Stockport, Cheshire by a nurseryman called Mr Witham and was first recorded in 1862. It was considered one of the finest culinary apples before the Bramley’s seedling became popular.
The trees are regular, reliable croppers and being very hardy do well in the North and on wet soil. The fruits are light, subacid with a good flavour and stay intact when cooked. They ripen in late September and store until December.
