One of the earliest additions to this orchard the Eynsham Dumpling was planted in 1995.
It is a large round cooking apple raised by Mr F. W. Wastie of Eynsham in the 1930s. A cross between the Blenheim Orange and the Sandringham, this late-maturing apple is ready to pick in early to mid-October.
It has yellow-green skin with russet patches and firm white flesh with acid flavour. It puffs up well when cooked, turning to a lemon-coloured puree and makes a good baked apple. It can also be used in a pudding which was created to celebrate its name, Eynsham Dumplings, which are made with flour and suet to create little apple dumplings that are served with apple sauce and cream.
