Donated by Pat Maddox and planted in 1997 the Early Victoria is otherwise known as Emneth Early and one of the earliest apples to ripen in early August. It was raised by Willian Lynn in Cambridgeshire – a hybrid between the Keswich Codlin and and Lord Grosvenor it was first recorded in 1899 and only later became known as Early Victoria. A codlin type cooking apple which has a smooth, ribbed, light green skin with a visible hairline. It has a light, sub acid flavour, sweet yet sharp, which needs very little sugar when cooking.
