Planted in this orchard in 1995 this is a late dessert apple raised in Gloucestershire around 1700 by Dr Ashmead, but which did not become widely planted or popular until the middle of the C19th. It has a deep, sweet but sharp flavour with a firm white flesh which was very much favoured by the Victorians and Edwardians and it continues to be a favourite today. The fruit ripens in early to mid-October and stores well until April.
