Peter was Wolvercote Tree Group Chairman from its inception in 1993 when the Wolvercote Commoners asked him to set up a group of village tree wardens (for which his only qualification was expertise in collecting fuel for his wood-burner).
Over the years, Peter has organised a Christmas tree shredding service and led the annual litter pick around Lower Wolvercote.
The Tree Group’s contribution to the green environment throughout Wolvercote and Cutteslowe is plain to see. Peter has overseen plantings on Lower Wolvercote Green, in village gardens, on the old Cutteslowe allotments and in Stratfield Brake. Thanks to his vision, the Tree Group has been awarded Oxford Preservation Trust environmental awards for planting schemes on Goose Green and in the community orchard.
To mark his many contributions on his retirement from the group in 2017, the Tree Group presented Peter with a stained-glass panel depicting an apple, and flowers for his wife Ann – who planted an abundance of snowdrops in the orchard as well as being responsible for dressing the water well for each and every Apple Day.
